Snow temperature at Dome C
40 temperature probes were installed in the snowpack at Dome C in December 2006 down to 21m deep. Temperature is recorded every hour. Data are available in comma-delimited ASCII format. Get the data.
The depths (in cm) of the probes were in December 2006: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2000, 2100. Accounting for an annual accumulation of about 10 cm per year, the first probe is about 50 cm below the surface in 2011. The dates and hours in the file are GMT+0 time.
This instrument was funded by PNTS, CNES, CENACLAM/OSUG and IPEV. It has been installed and is maintenained with the support of the French Polar Institute (IPEV) through the IPEV-NIVO project.
Update: we now have 2 temperature strings at Dome C. We are in the processing of making them freely available. Meanwhile, please contact us if interested.
